In reality CSR contributes to corporate sustainability by providing ethical arguments as to why corporate managers should work toward sustainable development: If society in general believes that sustainable development is a worthwhile goal, corporations have an ethical obligation to help society move in that direction. One factor integral to both sustainable development and CSR is the environment. CSR and sustainable development goals both emphasize stronger environmental preservation, recycling and renewal programs.Sustainable development is based on three fundamental pillars: social, economic and environmental. Sustainable development refers primarily to issues of environmental impact and economic justice, while corporate social responsibility encompasses broader concerns such as the company's charitable contributions and role in the community. Sustainable development can be a part of a company's social responsibility program.
Factually speaking, CSR refers to a company's commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and acting in a way that is ethical, sustainable, and beneficial to society. Generally, I think that CSR is closely linked to sustainable development, which is a goal of creating a better future for all by meeting the needs of the present without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The four pillars of sustainable development are economic growth, social inclusion, environmental protection, and good governance. CSR is strongly connected to these pillars, as organizations strive to balance their economic performance with responsibility for social and environmental issues. Companies that practice CSR are able to create positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes, which makes them more attractive to consumers and investors.
