Cut the leaves into small pieces before distillation to expose more volume to the action of steam. Try distilling leaf paste, semi-dried or dried leaves and leaf powder. During distillation a small essential oil fraction escapes into the distillation water. Therefore collect the distillation water and extract it with hexane to recover the dissolved fraction.
