Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) purports to 1) affect mitochondrial function, thereby restoring cellular health, and/or 2) affect specific harmful enzymes to reduce cellular damage. Tinnitus generation is generally believed to occur within the otic capsule as a result of hair cell damage and/or within the auditory nervous system itself at depths unlikely to be reached by a low-level laser, the very rationale for laser light therapy as a tinnitus treatment has little face validity; not surprisingly, then, there is no scientific evidence to date that LLLT is beneficial for tinnitus treatment.
I agree with John Lasak: there is no scientific evidence on its efficacy
LLLT has been used to treat tinnitus for the late 15 years; however, several placebo-controlled clinical trials have failed to demonstrate clinical efficacy.
