What I have seen in literature I am ready not considering that as tangent lines. My Mathematics description of tangent line is much more different from what I have been seeing in literature.
To draw a tangent line for determining the energ gap in semiconductors you need at list 5 and mor point from the curve in that line. For les number if pounts you have to draw your curve in a different dependence. For more details you can read the book " optical processes in semiconductors" by J. Pankove 1971
You can do that by taking the linear portion of the curve and you can graph line tangent with linear portion of the curve that passes through more points on the curve.
Actually, the accuracy of drawn tangent lines depends upon the presented data. The drawn tangent lines should be along the maximum rapid change in absorption/reflection intensity. In many papers, you cannot find the complete changes, and hence the drawn tangent lines are confusing.
I hope you will understand the issues after careful analysis of following attached image:
To find the energy gap, the tangent of the curve is taken at the point where the bending of the curve changes and then the extension takes to the tangent of the line that meets the photon energy and so calculate the value of the intersection point at the axis.
Dear All thanks very much for the answers. I thought the real tangent does not not go as shown by the picture of comrade Zaka Ullah but touch the curve at the point of bending as shown by graph attached.
