How does variation in surface BC ( Black Carbon concentration) affects the AOD (Aerosol optical Depth)? Is there any direct correlation between them?

I am trying to correlate surface BC( Aetahlometer measurement) concentration with aerosol optical properties such as AOD (Sky-radiometer measurement) but my results showing very poor correlation.
