In long bones, diagrams of haematoma --> callus formation --> callus development --> remodelling have been circulating all over the internet. But since skull is not a long bone, it skips the callus formation stage ( https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B0123693993002044 ).
Is there any authoritative text or review that gives a comprehensive description on how skull fractures heal (i.e. depressive or linear), along with some biochemical/molecular mechanisms?

Skull fractures do not heal with characteristic periosteal new bone and demonstration of the progressive closure of the fracture is sometimes difficult. There are certain skull fractures that are highly associated with abuse or inflicted trauma.
