One key soil condition in the humid tropics is soil acidity. On the other hand, problems of pests and diseases are significantly on the increase in the humid tropics as well. Breeding for crops that can show resistance (or at least tolerance) to these biotic and abiotic pressures is important. Shared suggestions, pieces of advice, experiences, literature, links will be appreciated, especially on legumes and cereals.
I doubt soil acidity will have any say on the resistance breeding of crops against pests and diseases under humid tropical conditions...In humid tropical conditions , incidence of pests and diseases is consistently felt than arid climates...
I agree with Anoop, I think you may be confusing plan nutrition with pest tolerance. Athough plants deficient in a key element MAY be more suceptible to pests this is not the best way of addressing the problem.
Breeding plants that are tolerant to soil acidity (Eg: Maize in S. America) is however very worthwhile.
