I'm trying to do a paper waste audit for a paper product distribution center to get data for a future LCA analysis. I have never been one before and I am not sure what to do.
So you may wish to categorize by type - different paper wastes such as corrugated or copy paper can have different recycling routes, values and impacts. Is the waste mixed or pure, Where is it being generated and can it/is it segregated. As paper is compacted it is probably best to measure it on a weight basis. Is it necessary to get primary data or can you use secondary resources - national or regional recycling rates. Basically you want to model the material flows in and out. I am happy for you to contact me at Loughborough university - details on the website - if you want to discuss this in more detail. As the previous person stated - the quality and type of data you collect is decided in the goal and scope, how you collect it is part of the inventory phase. What is your functional unit and system boundry?
