I want to compress my audio file in matlab. I have done it with dct transform but it is not giving me proper results and it only shows the results of original file and last compressed file not showing the results of compression factor 2 , compression factor 4.
I also want to know where the values of compressed audio file is saved after compression, anyone who knows please respond.

as you know compression can be either lossy or lossless. Lossless data compression is a reversible process and relative algorithms usually exploit statistical redundancy to represent data more concisely without losing information. Among the most popular algorithms for lossless storage there are the Lempel–Ziv (LZ) compression methods with all its variations: the Deflate, which is a variation of LZ optimized for decompression speed and compression ratio, Lempel–Ziv–Welch (LZW) which is used in GIF images, Lempel-Ziv–Renau (LZR) algorithm, which serves as the basis for the Zip method.
In lossy data compression algorithms some loss of information is introduced by dropping nonessential detail from the data source. Relative schemes uses the information on how people perceive the data in question. In lossy audio compression, methods of psychoacoustics are used to remove less audible components of the audio signal. The compression standards are listed under the so-called "audio codecs" and you can find more details by using such keywords in your internet browser.
