You can provide additional insulation to building facade to enhance indoor air comfort. Also material used in building facade can have insulating properties. The effect of ventilation & orientation can also affect the building air quality.

Building façade design play an important role in deciding the quality of Indoor environment

In case of naturally ventilated buildings it plays even more prominent role. Issue such as indoor thermal environment, Indoor air quality, Lighting level and radiant temperature asymmetry are effectively controlled by façade design. There are numerous examples and also research articles on this.

If above parameters are not addressed properly it lead to high energy consumption in air conditioned houses/buildings. Same is also true for naturally ventilated building. It also adversely affects human health and performance.

Building envelope variation produces envelope hygrothermal behaviour variation; this may result in a different moisture migration and time needed for fully drying the masonry. Moreover if a vapour barrier is not properly installed, in cases of internal insulation, the panel from inside might become completely wet, enabling (according to the panel used) biological infestation or rising the risk of surface condensation as the internal surface temperature is reduced. The latter things are not healthy at all since, as already written by Singh, they can cause thermal asymmetry and problems related to the fungi inhalation.

Following the logic of bio-mimicry - assuming its done well and swiftly the organism adapts and prospers. In the context of buildings it largely depends on how you envisage the building envelope would physically change? Obviously if the envelope could be constantly optimised in terms of recalibrating solar heat gain coefficients and thermal transmission values (as well as vapour diffusivity, surface emittance, air flow rates etc etc) in relation to occupant comfort criteria - then theoretically  the utilisation factor of any passive gains and the time dependent building energy balance could be greatly enhanced in tandem with occupant comfort. Achieving such a dynamic envelope in practice with minimal lag time, low embodied energy, low maintenance, low cap ex, low WLC and without the use of additional non-renewable energy inputs is where the challenge lies! Designing the building intelligently in the first place and relying on a small number of influential transformations (e.g. automated shading devices or thermal shutters, and possibly demand controlled ventilation, responsive lighting etc) might be a more rational approach at this point in time.

One may regard the envelope of a building much as its own skin. The skin performs vital functions to the functioning of a body (even an architectural body) by both enhancing and protecting from environmental conditions. Similarly, architectural skins perform functions of perspiration, ventilation, degradation and conversion of solar radiation, heat transferring, as well as weathering (mostly because of UV chemical impact). Skins should also be accessorized to adjust to different modes of the environment. Skins also perform visual attributions and visual presentations, which generate social impressions and individual affections. Similarly, one wishes buildings to have the best skin, suited for the environment, one should keep it in good condition and one should let it age gracefully.

Also look at the specific products being used in the wall - attic systems. Insulation material is key to lifecycle and embodied energy, but more importantly it is key to IAQ during all stages of construction.
