I am going through the literature on landfill gas (LFG). LFG contains principal gases e.g. Methane & Carbon-dioxide and trace constituents such as Volatile Organic Compounds. But I am stuck at the term “Trace Constituent”. What do you think, at what fraction or concentration, is a constituent known as Trace Constituent? Or there is some other criterion that I am not aware of? Thanks.
Land fill gases consistent with various gases dominantly methane, CO2 and volatile organic constituents.Normally, composition of gases are reported in volume percentages. If Methane and CO2 are in volume percentage; and volatile organic compounds are in traces, means the volatile organic constituents are present < 1.0 %. in volume % level. For detailed kindly follow :

A constituent is a trace constituent if it is unlikely to interact with other molecules of its own kind within a mixture. This assumption allows for useful approximations sometimes.
According to IUPAC definition the trace constituent is defined in the range between 0.01 and 0.0001%.
