Per acetic acid is the only sporicidal agent. So I have shifted to chemical sterilization using peracetic acid. For hernia surgeries, I autoclave the instruments and ETO sterilize the cables.

In our country it's not possible to use 2% gluteraldehyde, OPA or peracetic acid because health regulations from the state. As you know, there are a lot of reports about risks for personal manipulation of gluteraldehyde

So today we use only autoclavable reusable instruments. To sterilize the instruments in between cases take time. We have to buy more instruments. It´s an expensive solution but there is the unique

We use Sterrad Dr. Kavalakat.

We use only autoclavable reusable instruments, include cables.

Ideal method of sterilisation is autoclaving. Autoclaving takes too long and hence in between cases, it may be difficult to use unless you have many sets of instruments. An alternative to this is using gas plasma steriliser which is expensive. There are also high speed flash sterilisers which can give you rapid 15 minute cycle of steam sterilisation.

For the cables and tubings, better to put them in plastic covers or autoclaved sheaths like the camera cover to prevent damage from sterilisation and glutaraldehyde. 

We use re-usable laparoscopic instruments as a set including scope, light cable, working instruments, ports etc. So, we established many sets for each surgery such as appendectomy set, cholecystectomy set, pyeloplasty set etc. We have used EO or gas plasma sterilization methods all of sets. We don't never use gluteraldehyte or others.

We use plasma and autoclav sterilisat.

We use antiseptics after gas sterilization...however Gamma irridation is much simpler and most effective in many countries.

STILL IN OUR CENTER WE RELY ON CIDEX TO RE-STERILIZE SOME PORTS AND INSTRUMENTS THAT ARE EXPENSIVE ENOUGH TO BE VERY HARD TO DISCARD AFTER SINGLE USE AND INCIDENCE OF POST LAPAROSCOPY INFECTION IS VERY LOW...FOR CABLES WE USE EXTERNAL STERILE COVERS

We use cidex for sterilisation of laparoscopic instruments .Camera lead can be covered by a  sterilised laparoscopic  coverings .The laparoscopes are sterilized by placing them in chambers containing formalin tablets.
