Think of Hamlet without the dumb show! One really even can’t! A dumb show tells a lot about the theatrics of that time and to what extent Elizabethan spectators were involved in the theatre. And when one thinks of the silent cinema and the pantomime, one realizes how a silent act can carry a powerful and loud message.
Thank you so much Michael Uebel for your feedback. I am indeed reading Mehl now. There is also one interesting article by B. R. Pearn. I will read your recommended articles. Happy new year and kindest regards.
Jinan F. B. Al-Hajaj Hello and thank you so much. I definitely agree with you. Indeed I have recently read one article going exactly in the same sense of your insightful idea of comparison between the dumb show and silent cinema. The idea of theatrics is also very interesting.
