The specific context is for Methanol to Olefins production. The tools I am familiar with are the hyconnect module on MATLAB so I am able to connect that to hysys as well if that is easier.
You have to declare the reactions with products and byproducts, then call up the property sets for the components. The databank you have may provide the rates and equilibriums. If not then you will have to declare them. You have several choices for reactor type, but if your reaction is up flow through an expanded bed for reactants and products then a plug flow reactor is a reasonable approximation if the bed suppresses back mixing.
I have attached information with typical yields from the UOP commercial MTO processes originally developed by Mobil in the 80's using ZSM-5 or Sapo catalyst. When I have modeled MTO processes in the past I used Hysys spreadsheet models to calculate yields by interpolating between known yields at two or three sets of conditions. I then exported the product composition to new streams representing the reactor effluent. There are a few good ways to create new streams with a known composition from a spreadsheet in Hysys you probably already know a few. Let me know if you need help setting this up.
fluidized bed can be modeled using hysys when a mixture of plug flow reactor and CSTRs are used. Please refer to the article published by Professor Navid Mostufi (search his name in researchgate)
