Hi, as I know you should not cite the authors if you already include them in the sentence. But if I do not cite the study then it will not show in the reference list (I am using Zotero). How do I solve this dilemma? Here is an example:
"Martin and Randal (2008) found that donation boxes with higher bills harnessed larger donation amounts (Martin & Randal, 2008)."
So "Martin and Randal (2008)" is mentioned in the sentence itself and citation at the end is not needed. But if I do not cite then it will not be shown in the reference list.
Hi. As I understand referencing, for the example you gave, you can either cite it before or after the quote. Since it will only show in the reference list if you use the second citing in the sentence, why not use that then? And remove the first citing of the author. By the way, what are you using for your reference list?
You have to just edit the citation placed by the Zotero. Delete the first bracket and add a bracket before the year.
But be aware of the using Backspace and Del not to delete the whole citation. In every refreshment of citations the Zotero will ask you whether you want to change the citation. Thus, the best habit to do the all editing at the end of formatting the manuscript.
