I am currently trying to use green peach aphid(GPA), potato and potato viruses to conduct an experiment.

I have a Potato Leafroll Virus infected potato (Superior) and GPA colony grown from tobacco plant.

Although GPAs grow well in tobacco plant or Chinese cabbage, when I transfer them onto PLRV infected potato either using clipcage or directly onto the plant, they usually die soon.

For example, when I use clip cage to rear aptaerous adult aphids, they do well for 2 to 3 days but die afterwards. Also, when I just directly move them onto the plant, they either leave the plant and die on the ground.

I'm suspecting that years of growing GPA on tobacco might have reduced their fitness onto new potato plant. If that's so, is there any way to rear them on potato plants?

Also, could there be any other reason or any tips that you might be able to give me?
