There are so many mathematical approaches and angles it's impossible to know more than a fraction of them.

In each science we are confronted with different questions. I assume most scientists use the maths they know to solve their problems (either they fit or not), ask the questions the maths they know can answer, search for different mathematical tools for different questions, or even create their own niche mathematics to fit their question.
