I taught for several years a research methods course for the students in our FInance program (University of Groningen). We used the book by Chris Brooks, Introductory Econometrics for Finance. This is an excellent book, in particular if you want to train students in EViews as well. It has helped us to increase the level of master thesis..
We used several articles from Finance journals that used the techniques discussed by Brooks. If you like, I can send you the course outline that we used.

Kindly pardon me where coming out with this quest ,I have not be able follow your mind but i believe ,budgetary control is the best criteria area for grazing the finance .
In order to review the control it could be a good practice to prepare a revenue & capital budget in the beginning of our company s' accounting year,
This may help to monitor both the expenditure for the review so that it may help the company to feel up the gap if any where within the time.
