I have a book on the construction industry that was produced in America somewhere in 1950. The book was given to me by a charity organization that visited my school when I was in Grade 9. I kept it and uses it at undergraduate level. It's contents are still relevant. However, I feel it needs a little update. I want to revise it and produce a version that will suit the Ghanaian environment without changing the title (at least not so much).
I have searched online for the authors but it seems they have all died. Information on the publishers is also not available online. No other edition has been published after the one I have was produced so I'm having a hard time tracking the copyright holders.
Can anyone please advice on how to go about this?
You may want to check to see if the publisher was acquired by another publisher.
You can send a proposal to a publisher to write a new version and ask them to determine the copyright issues associated with your proposal. Publishers will have the means to examine any potential violations and at a minimum they may be able to lead you in the proper direction. Amir Al-Khafaji
