I am designing a vapour phase carbon bed adsorber to control VOC emission. The concentration of EDC in the off-gas can be as high as 60000 ppmv. The range of VOC concentration the adsorber can handle is from 500 - 5000 ppmv. How do I dilute the EDC in the off-gas before it enters the carbon bed adsorber using clean ambient air? What sort of equipment do I require?
If you do as you propose you will reduce the residence time in the absorber bed and the VOC will break through. Can you not reduce the VOC by condensing most of it at low temperature then warming the gas stream up again to optimum temperature for adsorption.
When I went through your information on your problem I was a little bit surpriced by your choice of an absrober which can handle EDC concentration from 500 to 5000 ppmv when treatment limit is < 10 000 ppmv. Such choice is not feasible from technological point of view as well as operation costs view. When you want dilute off-gas to concentration below 5000 ppmv. (concentration which can be handled by the absorber), you have diluted gas below treatment limit (< 10000 ppmv) and adsorption in an adsorber has no meaning..
