What I mean is when a beam have forces it could be compression, tensile, moment, or shear. We considered this based on a cross section area perpendicular to the beam and this is why the force that is vertical to the beam is considered shear, however what if we consider that the cross section area is parallel to the beam this will switch the shear to compression or tensile and compression and tensile to shear force.
