I am closely following the situation in Ghent / Belgium and I would be interested to hear how science/government deals with this extra endangered group in times of 'Lockdowns'.
I am from India and our PM has called for 21 days lockdown. This lockdown comprised of a total shutdown of all schools, colleges and work from home advisories. All modes of Transportations have been brought to halt i.e. roadways, railways and airways. However, people working in FMCH industries, power, water supply and other essential facilities have been asked to follow all preventive measures during working hours. Govt is meticulously trying to prevent hoarding and black marketing of dairy products, spices and all necessary kitchen items. Manufacturing of N95 masks, and other protective types of equipment for medical professionals at full swings. We were running a shortage of ventilators. Therefore our govt has asked both private and public players to increase productions and news have confirmed that by the end of the coming week will have more than 10000 ventilators or even more.
Oh actually forgot to mention about the homeless poor people. Govt has opened govt schools and made shelter home and providing three times meals. Though it has not been implemented with 100% efficacy. India is a developing nation where 93 % of people work in the unorganized sector. So all the unorganized sector workers have been provided with 3 times meal and 2000 rupees per month for 3 months under the Direct Cash transfer scheme. Middle-class people were exempted from any kind of instalments for 3 months, the deadline for paying any kind of taxes has been extended till 31st July.
The Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) has given several recommendations to the Government during the lockdown state in COVID-19 pandemic. IPS has proposed some recommendations for the homeless mentally ill.
