starting with amino acid methyl ester which is commercially available using the procedure:
To a solution of the methyl ester hydrochloride (1 eq.) in ethanol (4 mL) was added hydrazine monohydrate (8 eq.). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 20 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was taken up in dichloromethane/iso-propanol (3:1,10 mL). The resulting suspension was filtered and dried to afford the corresponding hydrazide as a solid in 80–90% yield
