It leads to disruption in learning and reduced student attainment. Governments therefore need to incentivise their most highly motivated teachers to stay in post in deprived or underdeveloped areas.

However, it has been a challenge for the government to identify committed and motivated teachers and incentivise them as teachers and whole education system is influenced by state politics. This is the case in India. Would you like to share if any such best practices are in place anywhere in the globe.

Amost by defintion, absenteeism greatly affects school participation, namely students' learning. This is mainly true in developing countries in which it is often the case that schools' attendance in the only way of getting formal education. Like Sandra, I think that governments need to incentivise and reward their most highly motivated teachers to stay in post and deliver the scheduled lessons. In my country, students have the opportunity at the end of each year to assess their professors' teaching according to several parameters and absentism is a central one in the assessment process.

Hello,
I am working as a teacher in remote tea garden area of west Bengal. It's true we often faces absenteeism of teachers in schools. We in our area mostly deal with first generation of learners and in such case main source of motivation for learning of students are their teacher's enthusiam and sincerity so if teacher are absent or not available then it in turn leads to absenteeism of students and overall downfall of quality education.
