Does anyone know how fluids from submarine volcanic systems and oceanic spreading centers can effect the nature of surrounding sediments? There is a lot of material that discusses deep marine sedimentation etc but I would like to understand how the nutrient and mineral input from these submarine volcanic systems can effect the local sediments including influence on pelagic sediments and organic factories. I have read a lot about hydrothermal systems associated with the oceanic crust but how would the water chemistry change around these extrusive systems and what would that do to sedimentation / local facies development? Any suggested reading would be appreciated.
