I have recorded a time series (in minutes + seconds) and would like to make a horizontal boxplot.
I have vertical boxplots in SPSS and Excel. However, Excel is not able to make horizontal boxplots including outliers and it neither works in SPSS, but here I actually don´t know the problem.
Does anyone have a tip for me?
Do you have the integration of SPSS and R? It will add the boxplot possibilities of R and can create horizontal boxplots. This option is automatically added to your menu when you add R to SPSS.
How to do this depends on your SPSS version. It has drastically changed between version 25 and 26. From 26 onward, SPSS can do it by itself, but you have to update the environment settings of Windows.
Just because I am curious: why does it matter if the Boxplot is vertically or horizontally oriented?!?! Both tell you the same story.
And you can get it in SPSS 26 in the Chart Builder --> Boxplots, define the variable, right click on the preview of the Boxplot in the middle and chose "Transpose Axes"... found it in

Once installed, it's a great extension of Excel's existing features.
In R, you can use "coord_flip()" command in "ggplot2" package to make the box plot horizontal or vertical.

Are the boxes for different times and is it the same items in each? If so, do you want the boxplots to take into account the non-independence of the items? If so, there is a little more coding involved but doable. It follows that same procedures that people have discussed for plotting within-subject confidence intervals, just rather than calculating the CIs you calculate the numbers for the boxplots.
