Estimate hydraulic heads from the measurements in corroboration with well information and then contour results over the area. Since water flows from a topographically high region to a topographically low region, it will be possible for you to determine the groundwater flow pattern. Again, you can also use the mud flow software program in corroboration with the well information such as hydraulic conductivity, transmissivity etc. and the measured parameters to determine the groundwater flow pattern
The interpretation that determined the depth to the water level, can be defining as unsaturated sediments thickness.
For example
Resistivity values for the unsaturated sediments varied considerably (7 to 1,439 ohm-m), which is typical for unsaturated sediments. For the saturated sediments, the following sequence can be defined for the locations studied: clay layers (resistivity < 40 ohm-m) and sand layers (resistivity > 40 ohm-m).
Here, If the thickness of the unsaturated zone can be determined, it represents the depth of the ground water at any VES point. The depths of all measurement points are taken and treated as readings were measured in a group of wells. From these results, map of groundwater movement can be achieved.
Read the paper entitled, Simulating the Expected Flow Direction of Groundwater in Wadi El-Natrun Area, Western Desert, Egypt, Using the Resistivity Method,
The flow direction and pattern is a precise operation, and due to the signal to noise ratio and huge range of formations resistivity we can't detect the flow direction from VES. But we can determines it in case of integrated between geophysical and hydrological data.
The use of electrical methods to estimate the direction of flow is something that has been addressed in numerous investigations but, in general, not from the SEV. There are examples of the use of the Natural Electric Field with good results.
to pick up water flow , it is better to use 2D technique not 1D technique
Vertical Electrical Sounding is 1D Technique which is ot suitable to detect water flow.
It is better to use Wenner Configuration or Dipole-Dipole Configuration as a horizontal Profiling methods which is very useful in water flow detection.
