Hi everyone,

I'm simulating the impact of a ball on a cylindrical beam embedded on one side and free on the other side at high temperature on Abaqus.

A high temperature is imposed on the top of the beam. So my method is to simulate first the temperature gradient created on my beam (Type of step: Heat Transfer Analysis) by applying the temperature wanted in this area. This simulation generated an ODB field with the temperature gradient.

This ODB file is then used in another same model so as to simulate this time the thermal stress field created in my beam by the temperature gradient (Type of step: Static General). Everything works perfectly and I obtain the stress field I wanted.

Now my problem is : I want to use this last ODB file with the thermal stress field in a new model this time to simulmate the impact of my ball on my beam. Like previous simulations, I want to set my thermal stress ODB file as an initial stress or initial field and then I want to create a Dynamic Explicit step where my ball is impacting the beam. The problem is that initial stress is not taken in account in the results (Initial Mises stress is 0 and I only have stress field generated by the impact of the ball in Step 1). What is the origin of the problem ? Does someone have a solution ?

I'd be very grateful.

Thanks
