As a part of the course, I need to use a ThorLabs CCS175/M Spectrometer which has an option of 5V TTL external triggering. I need to add a time delay and exactly trigger the Spectrometer through the script to capture a single shot spectrum of a laser pulse. How do I generate this single shot measurement? How do I need to start the process? What kind of tools do I need?

It depends how long must be the time delay. For short delays in the order of some nsec, use kabels with needed traveltime. For longer delays, you find professional delaylines for the triggerimpuls. For DIY a NE555, a triggerable Puls-IC is a simple device to build a delay.

Thanks Dieter! Your answer was a headstart to further work that I did. I've used a arduino board which had almost everything that I needed to do along with a function generator where I could set a trigger and some delay to obtain a spectrum for a single pulse obtained at certain frequency. I wrote a simple script for the arduino and also used the commands provided by the ThorLabs Spectrometer to send and capture everything at the same time. I calibrated the Spectrometer based on the cable that I used.

A quick question. I've captured 500 single shot spectrum over time and expected the results to be a linear fit for spectral wavelength over time and spectral wavelength over temperature. But, periodically after few captures there's a deviation of around 0.01nm/deg C. Do you know anything about what might be the factor? Do you have any idea. In the uploaded image, the x axis shows temperature of the laser while running and y axis shows spectral center of mass of the laser in nm which was captured using the externally triggered spectrometer.
