I just want to know the technique followed by researchers which will enable to capture the top view high speed video of a drop impacting normal to the non-transparent surface. I just cannot place the camera right on top of the surface because the needle comes in the way!!
A short search came up with ZERO results for images from the birds' eye perspective. Do you have a sample image to check or is this merely the wish to do what nobody did before ?
I can imagine quite a number of techniques to achieve such a result, but none is easy to achieve and they all depend on environmental conditions, e.g. on the distance from the camera to the surface.

The youtube-link given shows an off-angle sequence. I've seen a lot of them - nothing unusual. But when viewing the film, I found another film in the video-list:

Her you can observe a number of perfect top views. This video did not really give the trick away, but digging a bit deeper via the link given brought the following page:

On the right side you find links to a short experiment description (not exactly describing how to set up the top view) plus 2 .wmv files. Viewing the highres variant in slow motion gives the impression that in the case of the top views the drop was 'shot' slightly off-vertical (from left side) onto the target. 'short' as it has to have been a ballistic curve. This is one of the 'number of techniques' I stated in my 1st answer :)
