it depends on the cause of the anemia.

If you are interested in a 'renal' origin of the anemia (I mean a reduction of EPO production/resistance to EPO), associated to Iron metabolism disturbance, probably you should try these other models:

• sub-total (5/6) nephrectomy in rats, a model of chronic kidney disease with hypertension and anemia

Gentamicin-induced kidney failure model in rats, a model of acute kidney injury

PG-PS-induced inflammatory anemia model in rats, a model of 'inflammatory' anemia with the iron preaent in the body but unavailable due to the hugh level of hepcidin

There are other models available, but the three cited by me are very well documented in the literature.
