Abstract
Experimental conditions for reduction of chromium(VI) by vanadiuin(IV) are described. An excess of vanadium(IV) is necessary. The evidence indicates that the direct titration fails for kinetic rather than thermodynamic reasons, but that the back-titration procedure is made quantitative by the slow rate of the reverse reaction between vanadium(V) and chromium(III).
