Why do FCC metals like Al prefer ABC stacking and HCP metals like Mg prefer ABA stacking?

Why do FCC metals like Al prefer ABC stacking and HCP metals like Mg prefer ABA stacking? Also, why does Al prefer to be in FCC structure and Fe in BCC?
