Be cautious not to mix correlation and causation, our country (Slovakia) is a good example of that.

Drug criminality had risen in early 90' and capital punishment was abolished before that, in 1990.

But abolishment itself wasn't the cause, but social changes (namely e. g. fall of socialism, opening of borders, big amnesty in 1990 and globalization).
