For my graduation thesis I'm investegating the dynamic behavior of a Timber Concrete Composite beam (see figure below). I'm trying to make a FEM model in Abaqus and currently facing some problems. One of them is the surface connection between the elements:
- I want to keep the surfaces together in vertical direction, the entire time.
- I want a horizontal slip behavior (not frictionless but a penalty).
Does anyone know how to model the first restriction? The second figure shows an example of what I mean: if only the upper block is pulled vertical, the lowest block should still stick to the upper block. If the upper block is pushed horizontal, it should slide frictionless (or if my second restriction is taken into account with a penalty).
I think you can do it with kinematic coupling (in CAE constraints-->coupling-->kinematic)
it is best to use zero thickness interface elements to simulate the problem and the interfacial behaviour need to be modelled using kinematic coupling..
One alternative might be to form a contact pair with the two surfaces and to tie them in normal direction. In the inp-file, this is done with

where "left" is the node set of all nodes that have to be tied. I'm not sure if sliding off is possible in this way, though.
