Hello,

For my graduation thesis I'm studying the dynamic behavior of a timber-concrete composite beam. I want to make a FEM-model using Abaqus. With my model I have the problem that the beams overlap each other at the ends which is theoretically impossible (see figure). Can someone explain to me how I have to define the surface interaction between two beam elements?

I want the following restrictions:

- The beams should stick to each other in vertical direction in the deformed state.

- The slip between the beams can be defined as a spring (because the connection is not infinite stiff (linear behavior assumed).

At the moment I use normal behavior and cohesive behavior, but is this the best solution?

Best regards,

Maurits
