How do I crop a specific portion of gps data in excel format consisting of lat, long and timestamp details using MATLAB?
The data im working with is the data received from a gps device installed in a public bus which makes 20 up and down trips in its route, and I need to cut/crop the data: (i) crop a portion/segment of the data for a particular intersection which is of my interest which covers 0. 7km of the whole stretch which is around 18km.
Please help me on this.
I've attached the GPS data file and the range of the lat/long values needed to crop the data if necessary as I need to crop for specific ranges of Latitude and Longitude values.
I can do this, but I have no time right now. Try to put your data in x-y format (use GPS toolbox). After define your region of interest (in terms of xmin,xmax,ymin,ymax) and using "find" select the data you need.

The time seems pretty trivial.
The spatial is a bit trickier. Normally I would agree that this is a matter of forming a bounding box and testing if x,y fall inside the "area" formed by (xmin,ymin), (xmax, ymin), (xmin,ymax) and (xmax, ymax) where you can view latitude as similar to y, and longitude to x. (And be careful with equality or inequality -- is on the line "in"?)
However, I note that your geo-fence condition is very precise-- a segment of longitude on the way in "entry" and a segment of latitude on the way out "exit". Are you going to allow any fuzzy match? If not, only values on the entry say, with exactly the same longitude will pass through the filter (how much precision are you really carrying?) ....
I would guess that noise on the GPS coordinates would require you to allow some slack in the conditions.
You can try Racelogic Software. Its pretty easy to use. It will take GPS data file as input. Make a separate copy of input file and then select your region of interest. You can also mark the followed route by exporting file to google earth.
