Usually in Matlab/Simulink, there is a pre defined model of a 3 phase PMSG where voltage, current, reactances etc parameters can be adjusted according to the simulation but there is no option to increase the number of phase beyond 3.
Is there a provision to upgrade the model to a 5 phase one by altering any of its components?

I guess you want to modify the existed PMSG available in the simpowersystems toolbox library. You can save the library model in another location then follow the dq coordinates of the toolbox to add the desired equations for changing the model to 5 phase machine. Alternatively, you may build your model using the simulink then follow the help guidelines to link it with the simpowersystems toolbox.

You konw that pmsg is a bldc machine but the emf waveform is sinusoidal not trapezoidal.
So I suggest :
1- use bldc motor block ( pre- defind in simulink)
2- set no. of phases to 5
3- set back emf waveform = sinusoidal
4- set the mechanical input= speed (to operate the machine as a generator)

Theoretically if you model in the synchronous d-q frame your model should be mostly independent of the number of phases as the d-axis is oriented to rotating vector which is a vectorial summation of the voltages/currents on all phases.
