I asked 240 respondents 28 knowledge related questions and captured the data or their responses on spss. these questions had predetermined responses and i am in the process of assigning them the a score on the basis of how many questions they responded to correctly out of 28. how do i agregate their scores on spss so that i do not count manually the number of questions they answered correctly. kindly help
There are several ways to compute your new variable.
You can simply use the syntax:
First, create a dummy variable for each question:
Recode var1 to Var28 (SYSMIS=0) (Else=1) INTO Old1 to Old28.
COMPUTE Howmany=Old1+Old2+Old3+ .... +Old28.
EXECUTE.
Howmany is the new variable for how many questions answered.
The questionnaires should be done in a closed form. Answer (1), No Answer (0). Use a dummy variable Within the answers indicate 1, 2, 3, ...... depending on the degree of response more or less accepted.
