For any material, if I have the value of a complex refractive index, what will be the relation that I can use to calculate the loss in that material (due to absorption and scattering). I need to calculate the loss per centimeter at 1 THz.
If I unuderstnd your question (combined absorption and scattering out of known complex refractive index, that is losses) you only neeed to use the complex part of the refractive index as the extinction coefficient. Beware of having the right (complex) index at your frequency of operation.
