I am analysing a questionnaire on opinions and personality traits. I have grouped opinion-related items in four clusters (nominal variables) and computed nine factors (which I´m treating as metric variables) on the personality related items. Now I would like to test which factors correlate with which clusters.
I appreciate any suggestions.

e.g. use as regression model and find out how much (R2) your nominal independent variables explain the variance in the personality related items.

thank you very much. Can I use regression analysis even though one variable is nominal? Or do I need to do an Anova analysis with SPSS?

You can use linear regression analysis with SPSS also with nominal variables such as sex, age groups and so forth (check SPSS survival manual by Julie pallant). If you have e.g. depressive personality trait you put in a continuous variable with moderate correlation with depression such as anxious personality say r= . 46 and then your nominal variables.
