I would be happy to get articles and references about the profiling of universities and/or universities of applied sciences.
There are guides for european Universities
e.g. for Austria http://www.topuniversities.com/where-to-study/europe/austria/guide
But in fact it is a deficit in the profiles presented from universities itself.
Since wikipedia is nr.5 of all requested informations, it is a pity, that most institutions do not profile themselfs in this encyclopedia

My question was about the concept of profile. Our Ministry of Education and Culture means by profiling that higher eduation institutions must focus their broad activities to be rather narrow in the future. They believe that a narrow focus could lead to larger research groups, higher quality and international reputation.
The concept of profiling is similar to the branding of a HE. There are several articles on branding of HE or Universities.Look them up in Proquest or JSTOR or Google Scholar.
