I am hoping to understand whether and how the restrictions coming with the COVID-19 crisis impact research. Both in positive and negative ways. What challenges researchers are facing and what kind of support researchers need at the moment, given that their research routines and communications need to adapt to the new situation globally. However, if your research is blooming, I would love to hear about it, too :)
I'm currently a PhD student and I was just beginning my data collection (within farmers' markets' in Mexico) when the pandemic crisis hit us. I have been unable to proceed because we can't travel for research at the moment (as stipulated by my university) and farmers' markers are shutting down to prevent wider spread of the virus. University guidelines dictate that students should now be looking at using secondary data or collecting data that does not involve human interaction (e.g. online interviewing). Something that is difficult for PhD students who have spent the last two years designing and justifying a research methodology... :S

Currently the different aspects of COVID-19 impact are in high demand. Personally, I write articles about possible impact of COVID-19 on geopolitics. Of course, as many others I work from home. Working from home has positive and negative aspects. You need more efforts to concentrate while working from home. But mainly I am ok with this. Sometimes it feels even more comfortable. Of course, you can't travel, you can't conduct field research, but we understand that it's just temporary. You may use this time for reading, data mining, etc.

I would like it too. It will be difficult to see the progress ... Especially in the creation of the vaccine against COVID19. For our part, social science researchers, we can be aware of what is happening, each in our area of research, and try to contribute. I wrote two texts on the impact of COVID on the geopolitics of Europe and on the mobility of people. Although, with the limitations we now all live... Working from home, with little access to resources. Hopefully this tragedy that affects us... will be over soon.
