How could I make 3D reconstruction from just images, and what key technologies and research areas does it involves?
This is not like traditional photogrammetry technology, it depends on computer vision.
Like PhotoScan software, load images, and directly obtain dense point cloud to conduct 3D reconstruction, without any other interactive operations.
How could I implement it? what key technologies and research points are there? Thank you.
Stereoscopy is the key. If you want to start in this topic, try OPENCV, an open source platform for computer vision, You have there some tutorial about camera calibration, matching, etc. From there and with some basic readings, I'm sure you'll be able to implement your own 3D reconstruction system. Microsoft has a solution based on kinect. The kinect capture a point cloud (depths) from several points of views... then, the points have to be aligned (this process is related the ICP algorithm or iterative closest point). Also, I think, there are some few open source solutions for the kinect. If you have not depth images, it must be harder to get a correct reconstruction, but there are also lot of research in that field.
OK. Thank you. In fact, we want to reconstruct 3D world only by images, without point cloud. Maybe it is difficult without point cloud, but the researches is more, and it is valuable to research, I think. @Rhadamés Carmona

You can try the software "VisualSFM" based on multi-view 3D reconstruction technology, by which you can reconstruct 3D models from just series of photo images. http://ccwu.me/vsfm/
a good start will be Memento Beta and 123D catch both from Autodesk. They are free and give good results with just pictures. Memento Beta can process up to 250 high resolutions pictures.
