There are several methods based on different models. One is Nicolson-Ross-Weir method (And I hope there are some advanced version of it too). You will find the formulation there, which may help you to write the code for the parameter extraction. Also there is another effective method is based on Kronig-Krammer relationship(You can search for " A Unique Extraction of Metamaterial Parameters Based on Kramers–Kronig Relationship ").

Dear Soumyashree,

Thank you for your answer. But both articles that you mentioned are methods for metamaterials not for antennas! I've written a code for extracting effective permittivity, permeability and refractive index for metamaterials based on floquet boundary condition but it doesn't apply to my antenna structure anymore, I think it's because the boundary condition in antenna which is radiation one and not periodic and also my S parameters are based on this condition.

Now I'm looking for a direct method for realizing that if my antenna shows any metamaterial behavior or not???

Any advice and suggestion would be appreciated...

Hello,

First calculate and plot graph between frequency and epsilon just like PBG structure. In CST, go to parametric sweep, select mode and then draw the graph. Extract all data and check which value lies at resonant frequency.

Thank you for your attention. That is what I exactly need. How should I extract epsilon along with frequency? My structure is an antenna not a PBG. What should be the boundary condition for my structure???

Following are the steps to extract epsilon, mu, refractive index (n) in CST:

Post Processing --> Template Based Processing --> S Parameters --> Extract Permitivitty and Permeability from S-Parameters.
Select the S11 and S21 source
Then evaluate the Result. The result plots will appear under Tables --> 1D Results

Sir In case of metamaterial having Floquet boundary, what should be the approach to follow your steps? like what will be the boundary conditions or there is no need to change the boundary condition? or I have to introduce wave port also?Please elaborate.
