I want to know the volume of fly ash that loses in the air from concrete batching plant processes from Total Suspended Particulate. what method should I do to determine the volume of fly ash in Total Suspended Particulate that I collected from HVAS method?
Not so easy. HVAS is not a very good way to collect Fly ash particles. Now a days, there are multi layered HVAS systems available (but these are very expensive) where you can use different pads with different average pore size and then check those which will trap particles of the size found in Fly Ash. Still it will give an arbitrary result and not a precise data.
I assume, that you want an information about the partitioning of that specific fly ash, which comes from concrete powder in a concrete batching plant.
With HVAS the total mass can be measured which has been collected for example for 24hrs. For this, the numerated filter at first has to be equilibrated at 25°C and 50%RF, then it is measured empty.
After the HVAS sampling the same filter is equilibrated again for about 24Hrs and then the mass increment of the whole TSP is measured.
Because fly ash from concrete batching mixes with the rest of the particles, then a chemical identification should be done:
For example: One newer method is micro XRF, see also the tornado instrument on the Website of Bruker. With this you will make an analysis which does not destroy the filter. XRF gives you an information about the elements in the aerosol, starting with lithium. There is also the possiblity using this technique for quantification.
When you have found on this way the percentage of fly ash from concrete batching in the whole mass of aerosol.
Then use this percentage and the whole measured mass of TSP plus a mean mass density TSP from concrete batching to calculate the requested value for the volume of fly ash.
