For one of my courses within my master program, I need to do some tests in SPSS. There is one test where I don't know how to do it in SPSS. The question is: Include the alternative hypothesis and the test to decide whether an increase of 2 years longer relationship on the avarage leads to more than 0.3 points extra satisfaction of the relationship.
Does someone know which test this is in SPSS?
Theoretically you require linear regression equation to predict the effect of variation in one variable on another....
I advice you run a linear regression on SPSS
regression model in spss can be done . If both outcome and predictor variables are continuous linear regression can be used to see how years longer relationship predicts satisfaction and regression coefficient tell you by how much satisfaction increases with longer relationship. cheque R square also it tells you what % of variation in satisfaction could be attributed to relationship
I think there are several possibilities:
1. a particular linear regression model:
Satisfaction = Beta0 + Beta1 * Years longer relationship
H1 (alternative): Beta1 > 0.15
(One year > 0.15, two years > 0.3)
2. Two independent samples mean comparison
sample 1: A sample with k years of relationship. X = satisfaction in the relationship is measured (population mean: MX)
sample 2: independent from sample 1, with relation during k + 2 years. Y = satisfaction in the relationship is measured (Population mean: MY)
H1 (alternative): MY > MX + 0.3
Welch or t-test for two independent samples or
Mann-Whitney test
3. Two paired samples mean comparison
sample 1: a number of couples each having a certain number of years in a relationship (not necessarily the same number of years). X = satisfaction in the relationship is measured (population mean: MX)
sample 2: The same sample 1, but measured two years later. Y = satisfaction in the relationship is measured (Population mean: MY)
H1 (alternative): MY > MX + 0.3
t-test for two paired samples or
Wilcoxon test for two paired samples
