The most convenient procedure to obtain such an oxide is thermal decomposition of NH4VO3 in the 550-600 oC range (air atmosphere): 2NH4VO3 = V2O5 + 2NH3 + H2O. To make sure if there are no nitrogen-based impurities you must heat the obtained sample in the tempretature range from 530 to 570 oC under the slightly damped oxygen stream during the 18 hours' time. Try this out. Such operating conditions are surely appropriate
