Maybe you can use some agro-ecological practices to protect your plant against heat shocks. for example you can use inter-cropping methods by considering to your climate situation and protect your main plant by shadow of secondary plant.
Thank you Dear Pezhman, But my watermelon is mono culture now. In this situation what can I do? It is about 5.5 ha.
Thio urea,glycine betaine or Salicylic Acid can be useful but use them very cautious way as cucurbits are very delicate.
Start from lower doses of less than 1 per cent and apply on a very small area.
Results will guide you which way to go.
Again it is submitted that spray only one patch in a smaller area as results may also be discouraging in certain cases
I would say that instead of using chemicals as mentioned by Kulvir, I would suggest that simple methods like net-Shade method can be of great help. Secondly Watermelon has tremendous capacity to withstand the stress of high temperature as they sometime stop synthesizing normal proteins and take to make shock proteins (in this case heat shock) and survive. Alternatively if you are still not satisfied then search for intercropping type. Only remember, that though watermelon is a creeper, it stays on the ground preferably and you may cultivate in the shade of some larger tree. Here, in our country it is grown on the land between 5 coconut palms also.
