I wanted to check the absorption of some laser crystals of different shape and dimensions (approximate dimensions 2mmx2mmx2mm). What we have is a normal Perkin elmer UV-VIS spectrometer. Since scattering from the crystal is high, we are not able to get a decent spectrum. I tried a pinhole to reduce the size of the beam hence to avoid a bit of scattering, but still the spectrum is not that clear. Can any one suggest some method to resolve the situation? How is the absorption spectrum of bulk crystals usually taken?
